Amlwch Medical Centre

RLD Construction was awarded this Design & Build contract following a successful  two stage selection  procedure, we have considerable experience in constructing similar Healthcare Establishments, to the highest  quality. For  this  new Healthcare Centre  to  replace the existing Doctor’s surgery and to provide enhanced local Healthcare facilities the Client, GPG No. 3 Ltd had secured a greenfield site in the centre of the town of Amlwch, close to existing public car parks. RLD Construction with their design team of Architects and Engineers worked closely with the Client  and Anglesey County Council to ensure that all of the pre- commencement requirements  were in  place, prior  to  actually starting on site and liaised with the doctors and various NHS specialists to ensure that the building was designed to suit their needs and fully met current healthcare legislation.   The three storey structure consisted of a steel frame on concrete pad foundations, with strip foundations for the block work cavity external walls, which are rendered. Floors are cast in-situ concrete ground floor slab, and precast concrete first and second floors, with screed topping. Stairs are also pre cast concrete, and lift shaft and pit is of block construction.  The three roof types are reconstituted slate tile on kingspan insulated  tile support  system  on steel rafters,  Sedum  green roof and Prelasti  system  on timber rafters to a flat roof section. Windows, doors and curtain walling are bespoke polyester powder coated aluminium. Snowguards  were fitted to the large tile roof to prevent the potential for snow to fall on the public.   Internal walls  were of stud  and plasterboard  construction and particular care was taken to ensure that sound transmittal between consulting rooms was reduced to an absolute minimum by effective sealing works. Mechanical installation included hot and cold water supplies,  natural gas  services,  hot water heating, ventilation, air conditioning and a Building Management System utilised to control these.  The  heating was  by  natural gas  and used  a combination of underfloor heating, radiators  and ceiling mounted radiant panels. Ventilation was  also  provided through Passivent  Aircool Facade Ventilators, installed above the windows, for night purging. Electrical  installation  included lighting, power, data, CCTV security and fire alarms, being distributed from the plant room that was situated on the second floor.  Comprehensive fixtures and fittings were installed, to HTM standards, including items supplied by the Client to provide a completed building that was ready for immediate occupation.
