HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY STATEMENT



R L Davies & Son Ltd is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all its employees, subcontractors, clients, official visitors and members of the public.  We recognise and accept our responsibilities as an employer to manage our work in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and any other legal requirements, industry codes of practise that apply to our activities.   


1.1   Health and Safety Policy Statement

This policy reflects our commitment to ensuring that Health and Safety at work is paramount to the business and that effective Health and Safety actively contributes to our success. All necessary resources will be provided to ensure all our employees, the supply chain and stakeholders are aware of this policy and committed to its effective implementation.


1.2 Communication and Consultation

There will be active open communication and consultation between all our employees, the supply chain and stakeholders.  This policy will be communicated to all persons involved in our operations.


1.3 Management Roles and Responsibilities

Roles and responsibilities for Health and Safety will be defined in company The Health and Safety Management Manual.  Senior management will ensure that: All necessary resources will be provided for Health, Safety and Welfare.  Health and Safety is assessed, controlled and monitored; and our employees are actively involved on matters that affect Health, Safety and Welfare.


1.4 Hazard Identification

R L Davies & Son Ltd will identify Health and Safety hazards.  We will inform our employees, the supply chain and stakeholders, as appropriate, of these workplace hazards.  R L Davies & Son Ltd will require our supply chain and stakeholders to identify Health and Safety hazards that may impact on all our operational activities.


2.1 Health and Safety Training

All our employees will be adequately instructed and trained on the Health and Safety issues that affect them, and the safe working practices that should be followed.  R L Davies & Son Ltd will ensure the Health and Safety competence of our supply chain and stakeholders.


2.2 Behaviour and Culture

Senior management will demonstrate leadership in Health and Safety. Senior management will undertake audits to ensure that Health and Safety issues are identified, assessed and managed.  Systems will be in place and people will be empowered to raise Health and Safety concerns with management.  Senior management fully support our behaviour safety programme known as Incident and Injury Free (IIF)


2.3 Risk Assessment and Management

R L Davies & Son Ltd will assess any risks associated with all their operations.  All our employees will be informed of the Health and Safety hazards and risks that affect their work.  We will take action to prevent, reduce or control risks to an acceptable level and reduce the potential for incidents and accidents.  We will require our supply chain and stakeholders to identify Health and Safety risks that may impact on our operations.


3.0 Incident Investigation

R L Davies & Son Ltd will report and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to drive improvement in our Health and Safety management.  Any lessons learnt from such events will be communicated to all our employees, the supply chain and stakeholders corrective action will be taken to prevent recurrences.


3.1 Measuring Performance

R L Davies & Son Ltd will actively and openly, review and report on our Health and Safety performance.  Improvement plans will be developed during monthly Safety Committee Meetings to support the delivery of these objectives and ensure that targets are met and the desired performance improvements are achieved.


3.2 Health and Safety Management System

R L Davies & Son Ltd will conform to all the requirements of ISO 9001: 2008, ISO 14001: 2004, and OHSAS 18001:2007. The company Health and Safety Management Manual will be revised when required. A site specific Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan will be produced for all our contracts that are HSE Notifiable in order to comply with The Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007.  


3.3 Supply Chain Improvement

R L Davies & Son Ltd will engage and collaborate with our supply chain to ensure their Health and Safety capability and competence fulfil our expectations.  Health and Safety performance is monitored and reviewed, to ensure that operational activities have minimal Health and Safety impacts.


3.4  Health & Safety Policy Management Manual

The Health & Safety Policy Management Manual is retained in the Head Office and a copy is available on request.

Policy review: This policy has immediate effect and replaces all previous versions. This policy will be reviewed and amended, when required.
